President, Chief Executive Officer and Director, Western Union
Hikmet Ersek is Chief Executive Officer and Director of The Western Union Company (NYSE: WU), a Fortune 500-ranked global leader in cross-border money-movement services. Ersek has executive management responsibility for a global financial services network and powerful brand spread over 200 countries and territories. Western Union has a rich history encompassing more than 160 years of innovation and today is also one of the world's most diverse companies, with employees from more than 100 countries in 292 offices around the world.
During Ersek's tenure as CEO, which began in 2010, Western Union has successfully diversified and transformed its business model. Beyond growing its retail money-transfer business to more than 500,000 worldwide agent locations, the company has successfully expanded into electronic and mobile channels, added global cross-border business payments, and broadened its financial services product line with business partnerships to benefit customers around the world.
Prior to becoming CEO, Ersek served as the company’s Chief Operating Officer. He joined Western Union in September 1999, and held several senior international roles of increasing responsibility within the company. Under these roles he was a major force for the global expansion of Western Union.
Ersek began his career in financial services in 1986 at Europay/MasterCard in Austria. In 1996, he joined General Electric (GE) Capital, where he was responsible for retail sales, finance and the card business. Ersek also represented the GE Corporation as a National Executive in Austria and Slovenia.
Ersek is frequently quoted by major global media outlets on international, economic and social topics such as globalization, migration, transformation, digital payments and social ventures. He has been a recurring speaker at the World Economic Forum and the Clinton Global Initiative. He is a member of the World Economic Forum International Business Council.
Ersek has been publicly recognized for his commitment to corporate responsibility and shared value. In 2012, he received The Opening Minds Corporate Leadership Award from the Institute of International Education and Corporate Responsibility (CR) magazine’s 2012 Responsible CEO of the Year Award. Ersek also represents Austria as Honorary Consul for Colorado and Wyoming.
Growing up in an international family himself, Ersek’s background reflects that of the Western Union customer. Born in Istanbul to an Austrian mother and a Turkish father and married to a woman of Indian and Austrian descent, Ersek understands firsthand the important services Western Union provides its customers around the world. Ersek has a Master's (Magister) degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Wirtschaftsuniversität (University of Economics) in Vienna, Austria. He is fluent in English, German and Turkish.
Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer
As Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Raj Agrawal is responsible for the leadership and direction of the CFO organization. He is based in Englewood, Colorado, at Western Union’s global headquarters.
Prior to serving as CFO, Agrawal was Executive Vice President and President of Western Union Business Solutions (WUBS). Agrawal has been with Western Union since 2006 and has held roles of increasing responsibility with the company, including Treasurer and Senior Vice President for Finance in the EMEA/APAC region.
Prior to joining Western Union, he served in a dual role of Treasurer and Vice President of Investor Relations for Deluxe Corporation. Agrawal started his career in the automotive industry at General Motors Corporation in Michigan, and later worked at GM as a manufacturing engineer. He also held several roles at Chrysler Corporation, including Senior Financial Analyst, and at General Mills, Inc., including Assistant Treasurer.
Agrawal holds an MBA from Columbia University.
John R. Dye
Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary
As Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of The Western Union Company, John Dye is responsible for overseeing the company's legal and regulatory compliance matters. He is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Western Union Foundation.
Prior to joining Western Union in November 2011, Dye was Senior Vice President, Interim General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (FHLMC) from July 2011. From July 2007 to July 2011, Dye served as Senior Vice President, Principal Deputy General Counsel Corporate Affairs of FHLMC, where he worked on corporate transactions and managed attorneys in the areas of corporate disclosure, securities, intellectual property, contracts and human resources.
Dye also held senior leadership positions at Citigroup, Inc. and served as Senior Vice President and Senior Counsel at Salomon Smith Barney. Dye began his legal career at the New York-based law firm Brown & Wood.
Dye earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Middlebury College and a juris doctor degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer
As Chief Marketing Officer, Diane Scott is responsible for driving our brand, marketing, pricing and customer strategies globally. These core strategies and programs are built and designed to attract new customer segments and increase customer engagement, loyalty and retention across our various consumer and business sectors - spanning our footprint in over 200 countries and territories. She is based in Englewood, Colorado, at Western Union’s global headquarters.
Scott has more than 20 years of general management, brand, product and marketing experience against a wide array of industries, inclusive of financial services. Scott’s tenure with Western Union began in 2001 and has included positions as General Manager of the US/US business, Senior Vice President for Americas Marketing as well as the President of the Western Union Ventures (Digital, Mobile, Prepaid) business group.
Prior to working at Western Union, Scott served as the marketing communications leader for US West Dex and Izodia Corporation. In these roles, she was responsible for marketing communications and brand strategy for all consumer and business-to-business product lines. Scott began her career working in the advertising and marketing industry at Miles Advertising and McClain Finlon, where she worked across a wide variety of industries both domestically and internationally.
Scott holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Syracuse University.
John David Thompson
Executive Vice President, Global Operations and Technology, Chief Information Officer
As Executive Vice President, Global Operations and Technology and Chief Information Officer, John “David�? Thompson is responsible for building and developing the IT infrastructure to support the next generation of payment products and services. He also is responsible for maximizing efficiency, quality and customer delivery for the company’s global Agent network of more than 500,000 Agent locations in 200 countries and territories. He is based in Englewood, Colo., at Western Union’s global headquarters.
Thompson has more than 20 years of experience in the high-technology industry, most recently as Group President, Services and Support and Global CIO of Symantec Corporation. Prior to this role, he served as Symantec’s Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer and, during his six years at the company, led an organization that offered expert solutions and support in information security, technology, availability and storage.
Earlier in his career, he was Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Oracle Corporation and Vice President of Services and Chief Information Officer at PeopleSoft, Inc. Thompson is a director of CoreSite Realty Corporation.
Thompson studied at Marymount University in Arlington, Va. and American University in Washington, D.C.
Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer
As Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, Richard Williams oversees all aspects of Western Union’s Human Resources functions around the globe. He is based in Englewood, Colo., at Western Union’s global headquarters.
Williams joined Western Union in 2009 as the Vice President of Human Resources for the Americas region. Prior to joining Western Union, Richard worked for Fullerton Financial Holdings (a wholly owned subsidiary of Temasek Holdings) as its Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, based in Dubai.
Williams also spent more than 17 years with American Express, holding senior human resources roles in Europe, Asia, Latin America and the U.S. In his last role with American Express, Williams was the Vice President of Human Resources for the Latin America, Caribbean and Canada region. Williams also has held senior-level roles with Dunia Finance in the UAE, a joint venture between Fullerton Financial and Mubadalla, and with ACNielsen.
Williams was born in Mombasa, Kenya and has lived in seven countries. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from San Diego State University.
Senior Vice President and General Manager, Western Union Digital
As Senior Vice President and General Manager for Western Union Digital, Khalid Fellahi is responsible for ensuring the continued growth and global expansion of Western Union in the digital space, including the strategy, operations and P&L for www.westernunion.com and Mobile Money Transfer. He is based in San Francisco.
Fellahi, who joined Western Union in 2002 as Regional Director for North Africa, was previously head of the Mobile Transaction Services group (2010). He also held several senior regional positions at Western Union, including the role of Senior Vice President for Africa from 2005 to 2010, where he was responsible for 51 countries with more than 20,000 Agent locations.
Prior to working at Western Union, Fellahi held roles within SIS-Groupe Compagnie Bancaire (Paribas) and Price Waterhouse Management Consultants. In addition, he has held senior leadership positions at small and medium enterprises in the service industry.
A Moroccan-French national, Fellahi has an engineering degree from the National Institute of Applied Sciences in France (INSA-Lyon) with a major in Information Technology, and an MBA from INSEAD.
Senior Vice President, President, Western Union Business Solutions
As Senior Vice President and President of Western Union Business Solutions (WUBS), Kerry Agiasotis is responsible for leading the continued growth and expansion of all WUBS products and services worldwide. He reports directly to President and CEO Hikmet Ersek.
Previously, Agiasotis was Senior Vice President of Global Sales for WUBS. In this role, Agiasotis led the sales activities of more than 900 sales professionals accountable for generating all of WUBS revenues worldwide. Agiasotis has been with the company since 2006 through the acquisition of Travelex Global Business Payments (TGBP) and has held roles of increasing responsibility, including Regional Divisional Director for TGBP in Asia Pacific and Head of Global Sales Strategy and Operations and Regional Divisional Director in Asia Pacific.
In addition, Agiasotis has held a number of senior management roles with both Oracle Corporation and Siebel Systems selling Business Intelligence and CRM solutions.
Agiasotis holds an Executive MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management.
Chief Transformation Officer
As Chief Transformation Officer (CTO), Scott Coad is responsible for aligning resources and guiding management in driving the efficient design and execution of strategic initiatives that accelerate revenue and profit growth, enabling Western Union to continue to maximize shareholder value.
Coad is based at Western Union’s global corporate headquarters in Englewood, Colo.
Prior his promotion to CTO, Coad served in a variety of senior leadership roles at Western Union, including Senior Vice President, Global Operations, Senior Vice President of Corporate and Strategic Finance and Senior Vice President of Finance for the Americas’ consumer-to-consumer and bill-payment businesses.
Coad received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
Jean Claude Farah
Executive Vice President and President, Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, Eastern Europe & CIS
As Executive Vice President and President, Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, Eastern Europe and CIS, Jean Claude Farah is responsible for driving rapid growth in the company’s consumer-to-consumer money-transfer business, adopting innovative delivery channels and making strides in payments to address emerging market opportunities across the region. From March 2009 to December 2013, Farah served as Senior Vice President for the Middle East and Africa region of Western Union. Farah was appointed to his current position in January 2014.
In addition to holding a senior executive role with Western Union, a Fortune 500 company, Farah is a thought leader in corporate responsibility and shared value. He is an active member on the board of directors of the Western Union Foundation.
Farah joined Western Union in 1999 as Marketing Manager, Middle East & North Africa. He has held a variety of progressively responsible positions with the company, including Regional Director from March 2003 to June 2005, Regional Vice President from June 2005 to March 2009 and Senior Vice President for the Middle East, Pakistan and Afghanistan (MEPA) region. Most recently, Farah was Senior Vice President, Middle East & Africa.
Farah started his career in 1995 with Renault SA, where he gained extensive experience in marketing. Prior to joining Western Union, he was Area Manager for Orangina Pernod Ricard, one of the world’s leading beverage brands.
Farah, a French-Lebanese national, has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from St. Joseph University in Lebanon and an MBA from the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Paris in Paris.
Executive Vice President and President, Americas and European Union
As Executive Vice President and President for the Americas and European Union Region, Odilon Almeida is responsible for Western Union’s business across 98 countries, encompassing all of the company’s products and services in three macro regions: North America, Latin America and the Caribbean and the European Union.
Almeida joined Western Union in 2002 and has held roles of increasing responsibility, including Regional Vice President, Southern Cone, Americas from December 2002 to December 2006; Regional Vice President and Managing Director, South America region from January 2007 to November 2007; Senior Vice President and Managing Director, South America region from December 2007 to November 2010; and Senior Vice President and Managing Director for the Latin America and Caribbean region from December 2010 to December 2012. In January 2013, he was appointed Senior Vice President and President of the Americas. Almeida was appointed to his current position in January 2014.
In March 2008, Almeida was elected to the Western Union Foundation Board of Directors and, in March 2012, he was appointed Chairman of Western Union Foundation in Argentina. From 2006 to 2013, he served as the president of the Brazilian Association of Money Remittance Companies. Since 2005, Almeida has served as a member of the YPO-Young Presidents’ Organization.
Almeida has solid general management experience and a strong multi-functional background. Prior to joining Western Union, Almeida held positions at FleetBoston Financial, The Coca-Cola Company and Colgate-Palmolive, working in Brazil, Canada, Mexico and the United States.
A graduate in Civil Engineering from Maua Engineering School (São Paulo, Brazil) and in Business Administration from University of São Paulo, Almeida received an MBA in Business Administration with specialization in Marketing at Getulio Vargas Foundation, São Paulo. He further enriched his general management skills at the International Institute of Management Development (IMD) in Lausanne, Switzerland, The Wharton School in Pennsylvania, and at Harvard Business School in Boston.
