ENGLEWOOD, Colo.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– The Western Union Company (NYSE: WU), leader in global payment services, and Synovus Bank, one of the largest community banks in the Southeast, has launched Western Union international and domestic Money Transfer® and bill payment services at 249 Synovus Bank full-service branches.

Western Union’s global money transfer system offers Synovus—and their customers—true international connectivity via cross-border money transfers in minutes between consumers, and also from consumers to businesses within the United States.

“By joining forces with Western Union, banks like Synovus gain a cost-effective, secure and compliant way to meet increased consumer demand to send money locally and globally,” said Carter Hunt, Senior Vice President and General Manager, U.S., Western Union.

“Synovus Bank joins our growing network of banking collaborations as we continue to grow and focus on ensuring our services are available to those who rely on them.

“Western Union is at the forefront of the money transfer industry, serving as an economic engine with in-minutes or next-day transfer of funds between individuals across the U.S., and to urban and rural parts of the world,” Hunt continued.

For Synovus, Western Union services also provide a value-add for walk-in customers as a part of their “Connect” program, created primarily for consumers currently underserved by financial institutions.

“Western Union will allow us to provide more options to serve our customers and assist with their financial transactions,” said Wayne Akins, Executive Vice President and Chief Retail Banking Officer. “Their service fits well into our Connect program, where we are working to serve customers with a broader suite of products to match their financial needs.”
